Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected during a visit, the reasons it is used, and the limited circumstances in which another service may receive it. By using Marion County Criminal History, you agree to the practices stated below.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or place entered in a search box is sent directly to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. We do not keep a separate log of those search terms on our systems.

Messages and Contact Submissions

When you email us, we retain the message as needed to answer it. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.

Data We Gather Automatically

Our servers receive routine technical information when a page loads, including:

  • Page-view dates and times
  • Your device's assigned IP address
  • The referring site, when one is supplied
  • Browser name and version
  • Pages viewed and time spent on them
  • Operating system and device category

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files saved on a visitor's device. They and our analytics services help combine traffic information, such as which Marion County pages are visited most and where visits end. You may block cookies through browser controls, although doing so can change how some site features work.

What We Do With This Data

  • Finding and repairing technical problems
  • Operating the site and improving page speed
  • Measuring which content visitors use
  • Routing a search to the selected partner
  • Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

We do not own, compile, maintain, or sell a database of personal criminal records. The site explains how to reach custodians of Marion County records, including the Sheriff's Records Clerk, county courts, the West Virginia State Police Central State Repository, WVDCR, and the West Virginia Sex Offender Registry. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor information is not assembled into consumer reports or dossiers about other people.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the search boxes shown on parts of the site. Their privacy policies, not this policy, govern information submitted through those tools. We do not control a partner's storage, processing, or disclosure rules, so review its terms before entering a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to Marion County offices, West Virginia courts, state agencies, legal resources, or outside search services. Once you leave this site, the destination's privacy rules apply. Check them before providing personal information.

Advertising providers may use their own systems to follow activity across websites and select targeted advertisements. We do not operate that cross-site tracking.

Who Might See Your Data

Personal data is not sold by us. It may be disclosed to:

  • Analytics providers measuring traffic and performance
  • Search partners processing queries submitted to them
  • Advertising networks serving ads on these pages
  • A government or law enforcement body acting under a valid legal order

How We Protect Your Data

We use customary safeguards for information in our control. No internet system can be guaranteed secure, however, so we cannot promise that unauthorized access or another breach will never occur.

Users Under 18

The site is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If we learn that a minor supplied such data, we will delete it.

Your Data Rights

Rights can depend on where you live and which law applies. West Virginia's Freedom of Information Act, W. Va. Code Chapter 29B, governs access to records held by public bodies and does not turn this private site into a government records custodian. W. Va. Code §15-2-24 separately governs dissemination within the state's criminal-history repository system. For data held by us, you may:

  • Request access to information we retain about you
  • Ask that inaccurate information be corrected
  • Seek deletion when applicable
  • Object to certain processing where the law provides that right

Updates to This Policy

This policy may be revised as site practices or legal duties change. A revised version will appear here with its new effective date.
